Martin Schleyer

 

Immediately  after  the 26th December  2004  Tsunami  disaster, there  were  a lot of  humanitarian relief  assistance  such  as  money  donations, medical goods,  food items clothes  and  other special  items  sent  by overseas living  Tamils  and  many  other  citizens  of the  overseas. Many of the well wishers made individual visit to the tsunami affected areas and helped the   people in many ways genuinely. In the same time German citizen and generous person Mr. Martin Schleyer showed his kindness on tsunami affected homeless people in the Mullaitivu district.

 

During his  first visit  to  Mullaitivu  Mr.Martin’s prime  ambition was  to provide accommodation to the people  who  were  displaced by  the tsunami disaster. At first moment, he joined with TRO volunteers and began to make temporary shelters within short period for the homeless people. He too stayed with other workers in the Mullaitivu area to achieve his ambition.

In the mean time Martin Schleyer went to his own  country in order to collect  the donations from their  country well wishers and  sympathizers, after  finishing  the fund raising he came back to our country and  started  the construction works from 15-01-2006 to15-03-2006.ments and harmful activities.

                      

At the same time there were displace in the Jaffna districts by the armed forces. With. He also combined and activated with TRO volunteers for 3 days in the emergency relief activities of the displaced people.  

Again he began to participate in permanent housing projects for tsunami affected people. He himself constructed a separate house for one family member at Mullaitivu Kallappadu area.  Mr. Martin Schleyer willingly donated money to TRO for the construction of the separate house.  He too worked as a mason   worker with other mason workers and gave them special trainings about buildings construction works.  Work followed his training and instructions to complete the work. Mr.Martin handed over the first house key to owner of the house during 15 houses opening ceremony at Kallappadu, Mullaithivu area.

               

Thence he made visits to  TRO‘s Mother & Child nutrition  centre at Mullaitivu and illuppaikadavai,Uttu Mother & Child Nutrition centre at Mannar district donated an amount of money through TRO  in order to construct a new building.

Mr. Martin’s money has been used for under mentioned building construction work Uttu  mother child nutrition centre beneficiaries short lists a se in the temporary dwellings. Previous days, this mother child care centre was in the temporary cottages without any basic facilities in cluing Tran’s port services.

Permanently   building construction works took place at care center’s own land self. Beneficiaries of the care centre are treading with facilities Mr. Martin Schleyer also gave money to complete the building in proper time.

Above mentioned  amount of money had been granted by Mr.Martin Schleyer. The support and generosity of fund donation marks a signification contribution for the Tsunami affected people in Mullaithivu area is acknowledged and appreciated by key position members of the TRO.
